Just an addendum - Sony bought Minolta a little while back, and they've been making cameras for a very very long time too.Just sayin.

I think you should go for the Nikon D80 because Nikon has had way more experence in making cameras were as Sony only came in when digatal cameras came. I am a Nikon user and have the D80, so I totaly favor Nikon. It is up to you though so have a good time deciding and later shooting. Remember I would go D80.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - as long as you're in the same general class of camera (in this case, Advanced Amateur), there is no one camera that is just plain better than the others! Both the D80 and the a350 are outstanding pieces of equipment, each with their own special quirks and gizmos. I recommend you go to your local camera store and try out both of them, side by side, and go with your gut.

Ach! No! Don't ruin your camera!Lemme explain: There's a difference between water resistant and water proof. Some high end cameras, like the Olympus E1 for example, is water RESISTANT, meaning yes, shooting in the rain is generally OK because all the ports and seams are protected (but still try to keep your expensive equipment as dry as possible). I don't know of any water PROOF DSLRs. That's why they make underwater accessory cases for them. In general, err on the side of caution!

are SLR's water proof?if u shoot in the rain, is it okay?
