This was a part Julie Andrews made famous on Broadway and she was snubbed when the part was offerd to the 'better' box office risk, Audrey Hepburn. In fact, when Julie was nominated and WON best actress that year for Mary Poppins she actually got her revenge by THANKING the man who chose to hire Audrey, in her acceptance speech! She said that with out him, her award wouldnt have been possible! HA! Catty but spot on...

I don't see why she couldn't have done both Poppins and Eliza. They both were perfect for her. How could anyone not see the star quality in this clip? Dummies!

It's just seeing her as Eliza, her wistful gaze as she sings this song to perfection it makes me wonder just how truly amazing My Fair Lady would have been had it had Julie Andrews as its star...

It's such a joy to watch Julie Andrews:) She's simply wonderful. I wish they'd chosen a professional musical star (probably the best!) to play Eliza on screen, though if she had been chosen we would never have got to see her as the practically perfect Mary Poppins. I love Eliza but Mary Poppins is far more magical and superior a character in my opinion:)

Do u guys know that Audery Hepburn was not the singing voice of Eliza so the acting she was gr8 but she can't sing

Not that Julie isn't beautiful :) They are both gorgeous - they just have different sorts of pretty ;) and Audrey's worked better when she was being the common Eliza.

She turned down the role (julie did) for Sound of Music I think. :) But I agree. I love Julie singing MORE than Audrey's but mannnnnn Audrey did wonderful and so much more beautiful.

As far as the movie goes I'm happy they picked Audrey Hepburn she did very well making the part her own. Julie Andrews...I don't know...she just sounds tooooo pretty singing there. I don't think she could ever be "unrefined" but thats just me.
