These old Sephardi songs are often joyous, and some are quite frankly "lamentations". It was not an especially joyous time for our people, after the edit of expulsion was issued, and we had to leave everything behind, Sepharadad, homes, friends, sometimes children (many Jewish children were held for ransom, and many sold into slavery when their parents could not pay) This song is a very sad lament. Maybe now you understand why.
