So yeah, prohibiting something shouldnt be taken lightly in Islam, as, according to Islam itself, only God/Allah can prohibit, sadly there are still muslims that don't understand this.

So yeah listening to music MODERATELY is accepted, by my understanding anyway. Remember different muslims have different views in this, especially fundementalists.(who, sadly are the ones getting attention by the media)

"Do you marvel at this statement, and laugh and do not weep, while you amuse yourselves (proudly) in vanities? Rather, prostrate before Allah and worship Him." (53:59-62) Well the main thing above is that altough singing is not prohibited spesifically anywhere in the quran(that i know of) anything that is taken in excess that you end up neglecting your responsibilities are sins. This doesnt mean singing is haram, but if you listen to music all day long and forget your duties than its sin.
