(spoiler) The point is that he can't die because he has something to live for (Julia). He dies many many many times in the animation... just like in his story of the tiger-striped cat who has died many times but always came back to life... until the one cat he loved died and you know the rest. It's foreshadowing / symbolism.

Hands down the best scene from an anime ever.I was up late one night in my apartment about three years ago. I turn on the TV out of boredom ( it was probably on Cartoon network/Adult Swim) and I caught this part right at the beginning of the song. Watching it alone in the pitch black of my living room has to one of the most surreal experiences of my life. I have since watched literally hundreds of anime, and CB is still at the top of my list. This scene is one of the reasons why.

I think his work is good because I like his movies. Why do I have to know anything about the mangas he uses to enjoy the movie I'm watching? I mean you can disagree with me but don't be such a DB about it.(Sorry it took me so long to reply I live in Houston and I got hit by Ike.
