The Turkish Zeybek and Greek Zeibekiko differ in that the Zeybek is a slow trance-like dance that's done in a group, while the Zeibekiko is more free-flowing and done individually.

Zeybek has nothing to do with being an Alevi.. It's a Turkish/Turkmen folk dance, that's also adapted by the greeks because of the Turkic influence in the mixed culture.

zeybek = dance of the zeybeks...i am a zeybek, that means a turkmen/shamanian alevi...this was origanally a shamanian turkmen dance...

Try to search for the user ehbecer. There you will find Turkish variations of the dance. Try to search here on this site for Yoruk ali zeybegi or Harmandali, Kadioglu zeybegi. The style of the music is very different. Greetings from nollerolle

Kalloni is a place I hope to visit once in my lifetime. My father was born there.

Yes you are absolutely right. The root of the zeybek dance is dated back to the Phrygians who came from the Balkans and settled in Anatolia after the Hittites. Both the Aegean Turkish dances and songs are somewhat different than the Greek versions. Aegean Greek songs have a faster rhytm. But this difference fades as you go to Western Thrace and Macedonia.I suggest you also the following 2 zeybek dances from Balikesir which are called BENGI. Just search for "Balikesir Bengi". Enjoy!

Thank you! I have enjoyed looking at these! But I am sorry that I cannot read Turkish. But the Greek Zeibekiko seems very different from the Turkish dance, even though they have the same roots.
