I am so jealous of you! haha. I'm too young, but I was lucky enough to attend her recital in Tampa (of all places!) a couple of springs ago. I flew out there with a couple of friends to see her. We paid the extra money to be at the reception afterwards. Unknowingly, I happened to be mingling with her best friend! I told her one of my friends is a counter-tennor who also studied at UofM, so she personally introduced us to Jessye :-) She was very graciuos, but with Diva eloquence about her.

I was there! One of the great moments of my life... seeing the GREAT Jessye Norman making her MET debut in Les Troyens on the opening night of the company's Centennial season. It was like we were catapulted back in time to a vocal era that had not been witnessed in decades. I still hear every note in my head like it was yesterday. BRAVA JESSYE! |
