Holdsworth may not be expressing anything apart from a need for money based on years of too much practice refining a PERFECT!>!!! yes PERFECT!!!! technique. Nonetheless the music is exquisite and rare as it is exciting and inspiring. A beautiful mesh of banging rock n roll with sophisticated jazz. An expression many of us would love to hear more and more of....... viva la holdsworth

With the the most refined and delicate of touches Allan seamlessly can disect 2 crotches into 5 7 13 etc, creating these so called "tensions" i have been yapping on about endlessly. The harmony is beautifully pleasing to ears accustomed to listening to 12 notes as opposed to 7+whatever for modulations. The chords beautifully shift inside and outside of soft and pleasing to harsh and pulling, until we finally find ourselves back at the head (2 chord vamp with drum solo.. so simple yet a relief!)

hey largemoosei think Holdsworth's playing is gifted and inspiring The phrasing is beautiful with articulated harmonic intricacies creating magical tensions into and out of the various chord changes.The legato lines are justified by an 80's style respondant to keyboard portamento's, creating a very smooooth touch.Allans phrasing counters this with extra picking and arpeggiations to create these subtle tensions difficult to hear.The approach to rhythm is beyond that of any normal simpleton

Not to say that I could even play like that if I had the biggest hands in the known universe but dam, the guys hand covers the whole top of the neck like 12-20 without even stretching. Vai has those freaky alien hands too.
