that's a ridiculous comment to say Buckley re-wrote the song. It's a beautiful interpretation of a song Leonard Cohen wrote. end of story.

This year I heared Cohen sing this song live at 3 occasions. And believe me : he sings it as strong, completely different, bot strong.

Jeff did some great stuff and his early death robbed a generation of agreat singer song writer...but to say he practically wrote Hallelujah is going a bit far and some....Leonard Cohen has to take credit for the song Mojo...he may not have sung it as well as Jeff but the main body of the work is still present in Jeff's version

and don't forget so real. and speaking of him rewriting tunes, have you ever heard his cover of "come together"?

Jeff basically did write Hallelujah. He re-wrote the song. You wouldn't recognize it without the lyrics. Hallelujah isn't nearly his best work. Dream Brother, What Will You Say, Grace, Mojo Pin, etc...are way better tunes.

If he had written Hallelujah himself, I'd definitely think it was his 'best' song, but this near tops Hallelujah in sheer musical and lyrical quality. Classic stuff.
