I have to say that's only human. Weaver really hung Chen out to dry. She was extremely unprofessional in the way she handled the situation from incident to inquisition. Note that even when Carter's students screw up and get in trouble with other doctors, Carter backs them up. (See my clip "The Arrogant Intern".) This is professional. What Weaver did was not. My opinion is that she deserved what she got from Chen.

Not to mention that Chen was so cocky and arrogant in this scene that it annoyed me. Again, I'm not condoning what Kerry did, but still.

I agree that all three were at fault, but I thought that most of the blame should lie at Chen and Malucci's feet. I know that Kerry should've been there, but she shouldn't have needed to be there because Chen and Malucci shouldn't have overlooked the symptoms of Marfan's. Carter spotted it in two seconds. Malucci was so hell-bent on insisting that the patient was on cocaine that he didn't consider any other options and Chen was crackng under the pressure of being Chief Resident.

Weaver and Chen were having to exercise a lot of self-control there. Good thing they were inside the hospital. If they were outside it might have been on then and Carter would be playing peacemaker trying to calm Chen down!

Yeah, but Weaver's got authority over Chen and Malucci as chief resident (this is before Chen attempts the promotion)so it would be easy for her to just blame the two of them as immature and likely walk away from this legally unscathed simply cuz of her position. She'll probably come off on the surface as more trusting than Chen or Malucci like she really knows what she is talking about. In this scene she is seconds from being on Chen like white on rice...beating her with her cane. Self-control.

Wow, I never thought about Weaver feeling threatened by Chen, that's a cool concept to consider.

Medical protocols are in place to protect the patients in just this sort of situation. The protocol failed here because information did not flow correctly between Malucci and Chen and Chen and Weaver. Ultimately, all 3 had the responsibility of giving and obtaining the correct information and acting appropriately and none of them did. They are all 3 at fault.

I admit what Weaver did was wrong (hanging Chen out to dry), but it was ultimately Chen's fault that her patient died.

Weaver I think got that my authoritative position in the hospital and got overzealous and bossy! She wants things done her way regardless of how the doctors that work under her feel about the situation. She wants to be the top employee in the bunch! I think she should be a little more humble about things!

Weaver needs to stop ramming guilt down Chen's throat and think about herself for a second. Chen's pregnancy is keeping her from being promoted but whatever happened to Weaver with her disability? She can't walk without a cane and I'm sure she would be upset if someone threatened to fire her because she was deemed incapable of doing her job because she can't walk straight. It's all kind of sad and stupid in a way. Yet she refuses to look at things from Chen's view I guess cuz it hurts her pride! |
