I don`t think Matthew could have played the character Sawyer just because of his look. And further: not enough audacity, too little coolness, too much seriousness etc. It`s important to find out by casting.

I think Jorge Garcia (Hurley) also auditioned. I think if any of the other people would've gotten the part the character would suck. And Jack was supposed to die in the pilot, being a guest star portrayed by Michael Keaton, but everyone didn't like the idea of Jack dying after we had grown to kind of care about him throughout the pilot. So they kept him around and since Michael Keaton wasn't interested in being a series regular, they gave the role to Matthew Fox.

If Fox had gotten the part of Sawyer, I'm fairly sure that I would have ended up despising the character.

he actually could have been good as sawyer. It's just that you all not very smart people have some one to compare matthew (jack) to josh (saywer).if jack was saywer and saywer jack then you all would say it the different way.

Yah, he wasn't ment to be sawyer, soo much better as Jack.
