Well said.. Also, I think that nowadays, we're so used to the performance on CD recordings that we have unrealistic expectations of performers. Live playing is a whole different ballgame than playing in a recording studio, and sometimes we forget that. There are different aspects to each that we appreciate.

i hate people who criticise a performance because of minor "mistakes". just cause you can't play it... and if you were a REAL musician, you would appreciate andsnes for his seamless musicianship... and if you're not a musician anyway, don't say shit about stuff you don't know anything about

I had the same teacher as L.O.A once had, for 4 years and what she has learned me, is something I always will remember: You just got to practice, it's the only thing that gives results.

While everything is a matter of taste, the recording by Sviatoslav Richter, with Kiril Kondrashin conducting the Moscow Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra has to be considered as one of the best, and IMO the best. I realize, however, that I am so pro-Richter as to be biased. I agree with Horowitz, Rubinstein and the others that he was the greatest pianist of the recording era.

Constructive criticism is ok if it comes from credible sources. With so much critique being thrown at this man's playing, I'm just wondering if those who are doing all the criticising can play this piece any better. I'm no expert by any means but to quote Duke Ellington..."if it sounds good, it IS good" And this sounds great!!

Stephen Kovacevich recording with Sir Colin Davis and the BBC Symphony Orchestra is for me still the best version of this concerto, although Andsnes gives a commendable performance.

Andsnes playing mistakes is a good sign really.. I generally think Grieg and Andsnes is a mismatch.. and yes, I´m also norwegian. But this is actually not THAT bad. :)
