Just supposing : the ship ended to close to coastside, no breeze at all, and the headsails rope (whats the term in english?) ended in the propellor, so no engine anymore.

wonder what s cause of this accident? I suppose the skipr was not to be there, big waves? 2close to coast or what? By th way, those who comment on skippers skills,R they experienced sailors themselvs? It is not a bad idea to keep the mainsail up, trying to find some propulsion + meanwhile sailing windwards. The plan didn't work out somehow. Packing in the sail (xcuse me, don't know english terms) would surely make the vessel unsteerable. Unless you have a good engine, of course.

That appears to be commercial tow boat more than a Navy or coast guard vessel. Perhaps if a tow line could have been fixed before drifting into the impact zone things may have worked out better. The skipper of the powerboat went in...it did not work out. Poor judgment or brave? Rouge wave or near sighted?

What a shambolic rescue. This would not happen in the UK. The rescue boat would be self-righting. The helicopter should have wired a man down to the casualty and not flown so low as to endanger flight crew and stricken vessel. Long live the RNLI.

Oh my god! I always wanted to go on a yacht - not anymore!

I wouldn't give a mercy. The skipper doesn't even know the basic rule of rescue - head to the wind and pull in the sail to keep the boat from drifting sideway - he doesn't deserve driving a boat or even the name of skipper ! He was risking his and her daughter's life. |
