If anyone on this board has ever tried singing with an orchestra behind them and all full voice in their upper-range, they would understand that extra breaths are sometimes needed.

conversely, I don't think someone with 4 tonys and 6 nominations should have to take a catch breath...just a thought. I love her singing in this...don't get me wrong...I love the way she sings.
