We were arriving on RWY-27R and just about touched down when we had to abort the approach...turned out there was a NW still on the runway....amazing to see the power of the MD-80's....the plane landing on RWY-27L is a Mexicana Airbus

yes, very true...but if you remember, initially every news out let talk about the rudder so the public gets the image....it is so scarry while the alaskan air line still in 2008 has yet the same issues with their fleet...the NY times article that i read was clearly releasing info from ntsb ....i mean, what the hell is wrong with these guys..? they are as bad as terrorists....i mean, they are are...they produce the terror of a horrible midair death....i dont get it at all..who does..?

Just a small correction. It was not the rudder that had an issue. It was a jackscrew in the tail that controlled the position of the horizontal stabilizer. The jackscrew, due to lack of maintenance, had become stripped and finally let go.

sorry..u r wrong....md 80 that crashed was in poor maintanence...the rudder was not properly greased for a long time according to the NTSB. ALASKAN AIRLINES have cuased it, the world knows it and the relative of the passengers know it too...NY TIMES HAS AN ARTICLE that explaine the entire thing....take a look at it....S 80 have the highest safty record ".58", if i am not makeing a mistake including the spanair and the accident caused by alaskan air......
