That is an interesting point to bring up. I think it depends when the figures were to have been removed. If they were removed a year before the Olympics then I agree, she still wouldnt have had a chance. However if they removed say after 84 she would have been in with a big chance. She would have already established a big reputation. For example in the 84-85 season she beat both Chin and Thomas in fall events, showing how quickly and early she would have rose up without figures.
