This is THE bass lesson of all time. Jaco is loud, super swinging and funky, playing a LOT, throwing in chords, harmonics, hot counter-melody lines...and never EVER EVER getting in the way or stepping on anything.It's everything that can possibly be done with a bass in one song, and could ONLY have been pulled off by Jaco. "It ain't braggin' if you can back it up!" He did.

At 2:59 listen to Lyle Mays quoting the intro to Metheny's Phase Dance. Pat Metheny seemed to get a big laugh out of it too.

This is the rare case when I can only repeat - oh, Jaco. You're totally right. Joni is a great talent. The song is beautiful and special. Pat played great. But Jaco... Well, I don't think he always did the right thing. But here he proved his talent. I love this bass-part, his playing fits the song perfectly, and it's so innovative for that time, especially considering that it was the concert. IMHO, two best moments are 2:44-45 and 2:48-49 (where he played series ov sevenths, this is awesome).

Shadows and Light is an awesome dvd Got the phase dance riff, and there is also a beatles riff but I can't remember where it is at the moment. Metheny is amazing and jaco, what can you say, what about michael, incredible solo in free man in paris and drycleaner. Is that a young ryan o'neal in the audience? does anyone know what movie the rock n roll dance clips are from? I wish I could have been at this concert.
