lovely the sweet syncopation of orch.s like Ted Fiorito,Phil Harris or Ozzi Nelson with witty duettos and enchained melodies in U.S radio at the time ...Hal Kemp sordine secction was a telegraphic Western Union on records

Amazing how many famous hot bands from the '20's (like Jan Garber and even Lombardo) went sweet in the '30's. Anyone have an idea why? The mood of the Depression?

This is pretty hot for a Hal Kemp recording, must be his college band.

Lovely music and what tragic ends to these men. A tiny correction if I may - Prince Albert became King George VI (taking his father's name) after Edward abdicated. I am glad to hear this shy and stammering man who never thought to be King enjoyed this hot band and don't mind if he dished out some of my fathers income tax on such a good cause!

The sound of the Hal Kemp Orch. is really the first that comes to my mind when someone says "1920s." Wonder if anyone knows what kind of car is on "Poje's" roof in Mastic (if still there?) Very sporty once. VERY old.

Thanks Corrie, yes this orchestra is really great. But - how sad is the story! Two Friends from the college, who make the band: and soon after that Kemp dies in a car crash, and his singer - choking on in a restaurant. What a triviality, killing the art... |
