He isn't ignoring the composition in my opinion. In fact listen carefully from 2.05 to 2.20, and I'm pretty sure the majority of his ideas are coming directly from the songs melody at that point in the changes.And arguably they are both scatting, just her vocabulary is very blues/soul and his language is very bebop, which is understandable given their musical identities.I'm promise not being contrary either, I think your opinion is as valid as mine...

By 'tasty sounding but it lacks taste', i mean its slick and functional... but its a perversion of the song.. and i don't think jazz is about ignoring the composition and then soloing on the changes.. what george benson is doing is scatting. what jill scott is doing.. fuck knows.. shes a great singer but this is not scat

haha what? 'tasty sounding but it lacks taste'lol. well I think all we have here is two performers coming from two different backgrounds. GBenson is a guitarist above all else, so he's singing all his guitar lines...but with his voice. Scott is singing things she just hears in her head. they are both great just George has stronger harmonic ideas. maybe. who cares.

wow, i was being a troll, and this is still more silly than my original comment! Don't know about just jazz... sure jazz is available for everyone, but there is a language. Don't disregard it. He does use melodic minor...Also... my serious thought on this... his solo is v competent and tasty sounding... but it lacks a bit of taste... its not aware of the tune.. but then after that farce of a scat what can you expect...
