If you close your eyes, and stop your thoughts, you will like it even more :)

Oh, vibrato is not an issue at all. It's more with the orchestra I have a problem with... It's not breathing enough for my taste, and plays waaaaay too romantic. Ah... the 60's!Although the more I listen to HER, I like it more and more. You are convincing me... ;o)

Sure, I understand you :) But should technical details such as the use of vibrato really stop you from enjoying this wonderful performance? I find I never really consider things like this during a performance, my thoughts become louder than the music!

What can I say? It makes perfect sense indeed, especially in fields like we are discussing about now.I just have the terrible and unforgivable professionnel deformation of a vocal coach hahahahaDoes this make sense? I'm French and my English is terrible and unforgivable as I am!

In the end music is a drug to me I suppose, I search for music that makes me feel that powerful burst of emotion, that almost paralyzes me and forces my attention only on feeling. I do it with many works, someone brought it up yesterday with Handel's Dixit Dominus. I am very loyal to 1 recording because it is the one that made me really have an this "explosion" of emotions in my brain. Does it make sense?

Is the one with Herreweghe with Andreas Scholl? Don't get me wrong, I love HIP performances, but just in terms of emotion, I found this sadder and more moving than Scholl's performance and the other 4 or 5 I heard. I usually pick HIP recordings because the orchestra sounds rougher and more intense, and a smaller orchestra is more suitable to the voice, but I also can't ignore the explosion of emotion produced in my head when I heard this as opposed to the others.

For Hamari's voice, your right, she has a great voice. Maybe not suitable for that particular repertoire. The versions of that aria on youtube aren't that great at all... You should listen on of the two version of Saint-Matthieu recorded by Philippe Herreweghe. It's just a question of style. I'm a musician, I'm a bit uptight about those things... ;o)

Specially if you watch the first related video...what is that?
elias12186 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Yes, but I can't say I've heard hundreds, maybe 4 or 5. I like performances that capture the emotion of the piece more than any technical details of the music. Certainly those details add up to the overall experience, but the sadness in this performance, mainly in Hamari's voice is wonderful and the best I've heard.
