also similar landing system the Viking landers used, and they worked fine. I just hope NASA get this one right this time.

it is very risky the last time they used this way was with the mars polar lander in 2001 and nasa lost contact on descent and never was regained.

looks like an expensive and risky way of getting to Mars. The retro rockets fire just seconds before impact and no airbags to cusion the blow. |
