http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asi... MPs in parliament brawl"BBCTuesday, 8 May 2007-Legislators in Taiwan threw punches, sprayed water and wrestled violently, in a row over an electoral reform bill. The brawl broke out when more than 24 members of parliament from the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) stormed the Speaker's podium. They were trying to stop the Speaker addressing the bill, and accuse the opposition of delaying the 2007 budget.Taiwan's parliament, which is split between two major political factions, often descends into physical violence.-Passionate debateLawmakers from the DPP accuse opposition Speaker Wang Jin-pyng of abusing his position, saying he is delaying the annual budget by insisting the electoral bill is passed first.Mr Wang is a member of the main opposition Nationalist Party (Kuomintang, or KMT), which holds a slim parliamentary majority with several smaller parties. As Mr Wang prepared to speak, DPP members descended upon the Speaker's podium. KMT members responded by attacking their DPP rivals, exchanging punches and climbing on top of each other's shoulders. One female lawmaker was seen with a large gash on her arm after the melee. And at least one MP was taken to hospital for examination after receiving an injury to his forehead, Associated Press news agency reported.

Oh, I do know dipshit. I think they could more than handle a bunch of scrawny, faggish "girlie men" like Obama and Barney Frank, don't you?And they've got Joe the Plumber backing them up. They have a bunch of good ole' boys from the South who know how to "handle" niggers, if you know what I mean. And don't forget about the Second amendment folks and the NRA and Gov. Palin (moose hunter) that are on their side. That's more than a match for a bunch of lesbians and minorities.

Actually, more than 2/3 of non-Taiwanese in Taiwan come from the pre-1949 group--we make up the overwhelming majority of Chinese-speakers, not to mention most of the working class.Unfortunately, that other 1/3 has most of the money and political offices. :( Well, life's not always fair.

Unless they're part of the high-class educated trash. :) That's the reason the DPP lost to the KMT...the real Taiwanese, i.e. the working class got sick of the DPP and sent them packing in the Yuan and the Presidency.

I dunno. I think some of the Dems could take on a bunch of overweight white guys. Unless the GOP is allowed throw their Bibles and crucifixes...then they might have a chance. But the black and hispanic reps in the House? They'd kick the shit out of the old white guys on the other side of the chamber. :)

lol, they already have independence--their own government, their own parliament, their own military, and their own political party and courts. That's as independent as it gets! China has no authority there. All they want is recognition, and they can keep shouting because they know China will never invade--Chinese business don't want to loose their money, hell, they don't even want to investment options. Taiwan can yell all it wants, and China will keep investing, because they like money.

no the "music" is actually our national anthem and its supposed to be sarcastic.
aguswidjaja (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
This is what the Taiwanese call "democracy". What they need is Jet Li. He will be there to calm things down.
