As the owner of a 03 Tacoma 4x4 W/TRD off-road Pkg I was a little disappointed when the GF decided she wanted to buy a 09 Forester. Ill be the first to say I was wrong!!! Weve taken the Forester off-road into some pretty nasty stuff. The electronics on board make it every bit as capable as my Tacoma. Its been thru mud holes up to the bumpers and down some incredibly rough fire roads. The only thing holding this thing back are some better tires

We were discussing purely the off road capability. Your right, the Forester has great quality, cargo space, refinement, and ride comfort. Unfortunately this Subaru has no lockers on any diff. It relies on individual brakes to transfer power. Most trucks have locking diffs which are far superior for offroading.

Yes, this is better than Jimmy,Sonoma, Explorer, Ranger, Blazer. Not better than Wrangler, but I don't know about Cherokee or Dakota. Quality is better, yes, but Dakota can carry more. Actually this is the first Forester I see that has some sort of lockers, probably electronic.This thing can fit a regular size freezer in the back, for the kitchen. I am not sure that it can fit in any of those narrow Blazer type vehicles.

You honestly think this car is more capable than a 4x4 Blazer, Jimmy, Sonoma, Explorer, Ranger, Dakota, Wrangler or Cherokee etc off-road. Its a different class, its not supposed to be, and it ISN'T. I'm not "changing facts" I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

I have a 07 Impreza and 08 Legacy.I have owned everything you can think of and by far the 2 Subarus are the best I've owned.I've had 2 Gm's get stuck on me, and tried the exact same senario with both Subaru's, tires stock and all, and they have never even studdered.Sorry, but you can't change facts.

BTW I also own an 05 Impreza. Its great for on road rain, light snow and mud but these crossovers just don't match a traditional 4x4 on a trail.

"Subaru's and Audi's systems are different then anyone else's and are capable of alot more then most of the other awd/4x4 systems."Their AWD doesn't match GM, Ford, Dodge or Hummer' 4x4 system. For example, I drive a stock light duty 4x4, a GMC Sonoma. Still, with an automatic locking rear diff, limited slip on the front, and 4 low gearing for the hill, this system is far more capable than Subaru's AWD. Using individual brakes to transfer power through a diff is inferior to a locking diff.
