Ebert's comment was perfectly undersandable. Lynch got him to react on a relly base level.

Hes referring to the scene where Isabella is standing on the lawn of a suburban home at night while teenagers are mocking her nudity. This scene was confusing for me at the time because I didnt know what Lynch's MO was at the time. It was a bad idea for him to mix his dream imagery with some kind of pseudo thriller plot the same way its bad for comedies to inject crime into their screenplay

You realize in trying to prove someone else a pseudo intellectual you come out sounding like one yourself. Plus you can throw names around and not substantiate why. Blue Velvet is absolute garbage, a film is not a classic just because it "disturbs America's sense about itself in that it shows the nasty creatures hidden underneath its pretty veneer." It's based pretty much on execution, and boy does he fail.

Sweet sick and depraved masterpiece. I don't even remember where i heard about this movie, none of my friends have seen it, people who i show clips to think i'm insane. My favorite of all time...it's haunting, mesmerizing, uplifting, sexy.I can somehow relate my own life to it, the seedy underbelly and chirping birds are something we've all experienced in some form or another. The guy w/the glasses is a dipshit, it's "campy and smarmy" to enhance the wickedness of the darker scenes.

rara1800, I know the Starz and Encore networks air it every now and then. It also comes on On Demand frequently so keep looking for it. I don't think you'll find it on syndicated cable stations like TBS, TNT, or USA due to the content.

well hopeflly it will come on t.v or on demand

rara1800, my friend. This is one of those films where it is definitely worth the $10-$15 it costs to get at the video store. David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" is a beautiful film filled with amazing and mindblowing images. Also, to answer your book question. This is not based on a book. It is a completely original story written by the director David Lynch. In addition, I would recommend other Lynch films such as Wild At Heart, Mulholland Drive, and if you get interested into Lynch, Eraserhead.
