Compiz Fusion can do all that. I tried KDE 4 instead of Gnome, but ended up going back to Gnome. I don't like that KDE wants me to do everything with KMail, KWord, Konqueror etc. Sure, I can use Firefox, but the fonts got messed up. Plus, I had to write compiz --replace on every boot, since it was in conflict with KDekorator. Let people choose their apps, and focus on the desktop itself.
