Good question. The DVD will have a video showing how to make every part of RebelCat 5, how to assemble it and sail it. There are drawings you can print with measurements. Even if you know nothing about boat construction, if you can use hand tools, this video will guide you step by step to build a two-person cat. I show more than one way to build various parts, so you can go cheaper or spend more, make it longer (21') or shorter (15'). Available soon - watch this space.

There are three ways to go here: a weight (your block), a boat anchor which digs into the bottom, or a sea anchor. I made a sea anchor for RC 5. There are many designs, from a kite drogue to a parachute. The idea is to toss it in the water and, as it opens and fills, it slows the boat, like a parachute slows your fall to the ground. It must be sized for the boat and how much you want it to slow you down. A parachute type will nearly stop you. Better than an anchor in really deep water.

A rubber mouse pad with fabric on one side would work fine. On RebelCat 5 I glued the pads on the curved feet. Some kinds of carpet would work, an old wet suit, door mats... lots of possibilities.

Im not sure if this is posable but i need some why to build an anchor, i want to go fishing on the boat (sometimes) and i think that even if i take the sails down the wind will still blow the raft and move it. i was thinking maybe attaching a cinder block to a rope and tieing it to the mast, have any ideas? by the way i modifyed the boat so it has a bigger deck so i have plenty of room for it, (i think that the bigger deck will help while gybing with two people

I think i'll like this better then the two plywood sheet skiff I was about to make before I saw this

You want your deck to have curved feet with padding to sit on the pipes and fastened with tie downs or strong, non-stretch rope. I cut up a welcome mat for the rubber-cloth padding.

I buy polyester fabric on the discount table at WalMart for $1 per yard, usually 60" wide. Some people make good sails from blue polytarp - a little noisy, but cheap and functional.

34 lbs per foot, or 680 lbs. Add crew, boat and gear and subtract total weight from 680. You want half of your remaining flotation above water (reserve), so that the water comes up to the middle of the pontoons, not higher. |
