maybe last half of the 90s. rap broke big in early 90s but mtv gave more time to alternative rock and rap was just on "yo! mtv jams". now the '00s are the era of hip hop..no question about that. it's weird thinking about all of this - a time when popular rock music was free of hip hop influence.
