The song your friend might be thinking of is "In Every Dream Home A Heartache", asy4.The lyrics to that one directly mention an inflatable doll as lover, though it should be noted the song itself is a bit tounge in cheek, and deals with a "love affair" with modern convenience and commercial superficiality. Ferry's stuff was always pretty deep, actually... ;)

Exactly! I have always loved this song. One of my less "deep" male friends is of the opinion that this is a love song to an inflatable woman. Umm, yeah...if you think rubber is transcendent!

Ummm, "groovy" is a VERY 1960s phrase. These guys are VERY glam, very 70s. Totally different ear. The Beattles "Sargeant Pepper" album is much closer to "groovy." If you like this song, check out Virginia Plain, Ladytron and Love is the Drug. Although this has always been one of my favorite Roxy Music tunes.

Always admired how beautifully constructed and clever this song is. It really does have two complementary parts - the first fast paced section is all about the wild night before, the fleeting party life. Then comes the next day, when longing for eternal beauty, enduring life, transcendent love grips the soul and an image of the goddess appears.

The first 90 seconds almost amount to a separate song, and a good one.

Here is Bryan Ferry at his most dramatic. He must have a fabulous memory. This song has a tremendously long lyric, as do many other Roxie/Ferry songs. Then Ferry turned to Bob Dylan songs, most of them with very lengthy, complex lyrics. And the Ferry repertoire of songs is vast.
