I'm guessing this is the first time you've heard Glenn Gould? :)

AND Bach was a master of the violin and all its descendants. I love Gould but I still have to say my favorite interpretation of the Goldbergs is Perahia's.

hats off and bow to two Great Great Grandmasters! As a pianist, my deepest respects and admiration go to both interpreter AND composer

Creating and performing are two different arts. Prokofiev for example let Sviatoslav Richter play his new works, knowing he was better capable of communicating his work to the public. The recordings of Stravinsky conducting his own work are..well, not exactly crap, but there are clearly better one's Rachmaninov own piano play isn't that swell either :)

Gould is incredible! But can you imagine..?? Bach wrote this stuff.. and he composed it himself.. he must have played it 10 times better that Gould!! The composer always plays his own material better than anyone. No disrespect to Gould! He's a legend! |
