Lowell Left becasue the way the record business was structured. Little Feat as a band could not make money. As a solo artist Lowell could. Bill Payne could as a Studio Player. I don't think his heart was ever in it. The solo album took forever. Going on the road sans the band just broke his heart. He got to D.C. and people at the Lisner Theatre (his last performance) loved him but wanted to see the band Must have been awful. Despair breeds carelessness. He got careless, died that night.

You're correct JeffSq. He wasn't used to playing with anyone else, and he missed his band. But the fact remains that he had lost a great deal the respect of many of the other band members, because of his lack of productivity. There's no question that Lowell was the best singer Little Feat ever had, and I miss the guy to this day.

It is really debatable whether or not Lowell had intentions of getting back with the Feat. I have heard quite a few interviews with other band members stating that Lowell had actually made phone calls to other Feat members(during his last days) telling them that the band should get back together when his solo tour had ended.

I remember in the early 1970s when people did not think that Cocaine was addictive. Never tried it myself, but at the very least it's Psychologically addictive, and it killed Lowell. I think he'd really decided to leave the band, and had his own band at the time of his death, so one never knows what he had in mind with respect to the Feat.It was a most unfortunate artistic difference, and Lowell's declining ability to write songs that finally did them and him in.
