You are right, it does not rhyme, ecause it should be 'drown POOR pussy cat'. I am 64 yrs old and sang this rhyme as a small child - and loved it.

The last line should really be 'to drown POOR pussy cat'. I was born in 1944 and learned this rather 'bizarre' nursery rhyme as a small child - we loved it though and I don't believe I am scarred by it!
