Interesting. I didn't know Hammett used a Dumble. That surprises me a little since his tone is usually so Marshall-ish, if you know what I mean. I've always liked his playing though.I wonder what became of Stevie's Dumble amp after he was killed. Maybe Jimmie has it?

No problem at all mate.I made the same mistake (maybe by seeing how you wrote).Instead of Singer I said Slinger too.No big deal any way.

Hey no problem about it as I said. And yep, I can only imagine of how it was in Austin back than in the early days in the clubs when they would both play together.I am sure it was red hot and mindblowing music that was going on and on.And yep, both used those legendary Dumble amplifiers. I think Kirk Hammet used or he is still using Dumble amps too. Stevie used Steel String Slingers. I too don't know what type of Eric uses.

Ooops, typo alert in my last post: "Slinger" should have been "Singer" (without the "l"). As Maxwell Smart used to say, "Sorry about that, Chief."

No worries. Like I said, I just didn't recall that ever happening. No big deal -- like you say, I'm sure they played together from time to time. Wow, can you imagine what a club show in Austin in the early days, with those two playing together, would have been like? Whoa ....An interesting bit of trivia is that they both had one of those legendary Dumble amplifiers. They're quite rare and sound utterly amazing. Stevie's was a Steel String Slinger, IIRC; I don't recall Eric's model.

Well they certainly played together (that is obvious), they just maybe haven't toured together, so I wrongly said about that. Sorry for any confussion mate.I don't know where I honestly saw that information, but I guess I was wrong about it all the time. One thing for sure is that they played together a couple of times, and as it seems, they haven't toured together.
Ken5244 (October 12, 2008 at 6:35 pm)
Oh, I'm sure you're probably right. But playing on the same bill together a few times isn't the same as touring together. You said they "toured together," and I'm just not aware of that ever happening.

I read in some book about SRV (I have many books about him) and actually saw some setlists of some concerts where it has been stated that they not only played on the same bill together, they even played together on some songs. I don't know what year and period it was that they played together, but it definetely happpened. After all, they were close and very good friends, knowing that they both came from Austin, Texas and that they came on the scene at the same time (in the 1970's).

Quote: "Also, I've read on the net (on many sites) that Eric Johnson states SRV as an influence (don't know for what period of his career)."I've followed Eric's career pretty closely, and the players he typically cites as influences are Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, Carole King, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck. I'm sure he's probably mentioned SRV as an "influence" on some level, but I don't really hear it in his playing. Do you? On which songs?
