"Miles did a great version of Human Nature but I don't think this is from 1991. I think the guitarist is John Scofield so this would be in the 82 to 85 range. It looks like the Montreal Jazz Festival gig from 1985, if I'm not mistaken." Writted by Modernjazz in the second Comment.

I doubt it's 1991 . I doubt, but if It is true this video has an incalculable value.

Miles explored psychedelia with 'Miles in the sky' blues/fusion with 'In a Silent way' & 'Bitches Brew' Hip Hop with 'Doo Bop' Funk/Soul with 'On the Corner' along with many other styles and forms of Jazz throughout his career. He was a restless musical spirit, but his music is always good and always honest. It's never a pallid reflection of other genres but more a measured study in their component parts by a true musical genius.- C sXe

I think it was to reflect that the music he was making was so different. If you check the liner notes of a record like 'On The Corner' by no means a traditional Jazz record, he was leaving his older style behind in favour of sonic exploration and I think he wanted to represent that in his clothing and stage presentation. I don't think it was entirely about embracing fashion IMHO- C sXe

Miles Davis rules!!! - But, I think he looked a whole lot better in formals, short hair and in the pre-cool jazz era. Wonder why he changed his strong, commanding appearance for the sake of fashion? |
