If this were used as the anthem of every Olympics, I'd stop watching the Olympic ceremonies altogether. To me, this anthem is specifically the anthem of the 1984 L.A. Olympics, which, along with Moscow 1980, was a victim of Cold War politics. Why should every Olympics hence try to emulate L.A. '84?As for the music, I happen to prefer Vic Vogel's music for Montréal '76, but I also think that the music at an Olympic ceremony should reflect the culture of the host city.

Thanks for the post. I remember watching these ceremonies on TV and hearing this song for the first time. Thanks for the great memories.

For me, this IS the Olympic anthem, and should be used at every games. It is just so uplifting that you feel like a gold medallist just listening to it!

It's a truly amazing song and will be honored to play this in the middle school band this year. It's seems that all middle scholl students will be playing this song as either a band or as a solo. Our band is doing well and could still do with some practice. I will be playing first clarinet and I'm having some trouble. When I play, it just sounds like normal playing. How do I make it sound like I am a proud Olypmian? I enjoy my music and want to make it better in every way. Please help.

Beethoven is good indeed, but not for the olympic theme. This song fits perfectly with the opening ceremony. Turn up the speakers and feel how mighty this song is.You will not hear me saying that this needs to be played every Olympic, but "I think this might well be the single most overrated piece of music in the history of the world."? No!

I respect that.

I respect Mr. Williams' talents as a film composer, and these talents were appropriate for the Los Angeles Olympics, as Hollywood is very much the cultural center of Los Angeles.I don't think that this "Olympic Fanfare and Theme" transcends its historical setting, however. It may not always be possible to select a representative composer from a host city, but certainly Seoul and Atlanta could have had more appropriate musical representation than Williams redux.

You have to remember that idea of "original composition". Obviously there are moments that resemble the three B's. However, John Williams is an American Composer and whether you like it or not he is one of America's greats. Newer music will always be based of off older music. Yes, Beethoven was amazing but do give some respect to Mr. Williams for he was composed a wonderful piece of music.
