Syros owes its name to the Phoenicians who colonized it during the 8th century B.C and were originally from Sour( hellenized as Syros) Homer calls it Syrie and Diogenis Syra. I am not aware if phoenicians are connected to Assyrians ,if there is a connection between Assyrians,Phoenicians and Sour then there is a connection with Syros also:) at least linguistic. AssyrianHero: "Frangosyriani" is a compound word which means "Roman Catholic woman from Syros" - the title of the song (in its literal form) talks about a guy who falls in love with a woman. If you listen carefully, you'll hear a few Italian words in the song. The song was written by the legendary Markos Vamvakaris, also known as the "Father of the Rebetika" genre. Geiaaaaa!!
