John McLaughlin performing his "Mediterranean Concerto" for guitar and orchestra live with the Munich Philharmonic in 1989. This piece is a modern example of so-called "Third Stream" music, i.e., combination of jazz and classical. The piece is completely composed , but has the soloist/composer has areas of improvisation.www.guitaralive.org

yeh, I absolutely love him. Unfortunately he's been around for like 30+ years so It's likely he'll ever become internationally famous

Yes, but internationaly he is still "unknown". None of my friends here in Denmark ever heard of him. Thats what i meant.I know he is touring alot now, but still havent been on british tv for instance! He is ofcorse an awesome guitar personality and its only a matter of time.cheers.

Everyone in Australia has heard of Tommy, so I wouldn't call him unknown

is John from outer space?

you will be surprised, I agree a little bit !Classical music is not John´s first domain, therefore I like it more when he plays modern jazz or fusion or indian-influenced music. On the other hand -- Tommy Emmanuel is a first class virtuoso, but he does cover-versions while McLaughlin always features own material which is very strong in its musical substance.

I am for instance much more impressed by unknown people such as Jake Shimas Bukuro and his "Amazing Ukulele", or Tommy Emmanuel and his "Tommy Emmanuel - Guitar Boogie & Stevie's Blues - July 2006"... Look them both up here on utube
