Compare? When you compare you're really not listening. Alan is Alan take it or leave it. He's influenced everyone who's listened to him who's a guitar player. If you wanted that sound he was the only one at a certain time in guitar history who was doing it so you had to go with him. Now when you hear people play you can always tell if they've listened to him (Holdsworth) or not. Listen to Tony Williams "Lifetime" not with John McLaughlin. Be sure to look at the date. That's when it all started..
