Taste is one thing, depth, ability, earnestness. These really are not matters of taste. By your standard any 20c novella is as good as Shakespeare according to 'taste'.The fact is, taste is not solid. You can dislike a song, play it twenty times and find it is far more profound than the catchy number you bought the album for. By exposure your taste has changed/developed/expanded.John Mclaughlin is a better guitarist than Brian May. That is not taste, it is objective fact, Just ask Brian May.

Yeah but that rolling stone list put Aerosmith's guitarist next too John Mclaughlin in the middle and put Duane Allman at number two. I don't even think Holdworth or Nick Drake made the list. I pissed myself laughing. Oh yeah, Kirk hammet was like 11, in front of Beck and Mclaughlin.So in short, popular polls mean less than shit because the populous is fucking ignorant.Personally I put Thompson top ten.
