well i said that because after all theses years ,if your a certain age and your just trying to understand hiphop, i think that you may never understand it, cause when rap was at it's best in the 90's u should have paid attention, it is hard to break things down when a new generation is coming up, and u expect to learn things from them, and i said white people, becuz only white people ask such questions, rappers get in fued alot but the best rap may include fueds but mostly just good lyrics

and about the "rappers claim to be better than other rappers" thing - in every song I've heard so far, it seems like every rapper talks about how fresh and dope they are lol and that their rhymes are better than everyone else's, but I don't know... if you're curious as to what hip-hop I listen to, I like A Tribe Called Quest, Beastie Boys, Nas, and Tech N9ne.

what does me being white have to do with anything? I could be Chinese and ask the same question... and I know what I listen to, so don't tell me I don't know anything. to be honest I'm not a big hip-hop fan like you said, I'm more a rock fan that's into some hip-hop, so I'm still trying to understand the culture and the music a bit more, so don't attack me if I say something that might offend you...! it's all a learning experience for me.

Its all an act, check out Brand Nubians first album with Grand Puba. These guys used to be into tie die t-shirts, beads and intellegent rap.....they just turned hard because it was the trend in early 90s hip-hop.They just re-invented themselves to move with the trends in music that;s what you have to do to stay afloat in the music business

and for one hip hop has always been a rebelloous music reflectin the ill's of society and for years rappers have been rhyming about the bad things about their neighborhoods(crime) so rap has always had a crime element to it, it kind preaches to be smart and a lot of other nurturing things but my guess is only the black people who have been lisening to it since its begining understand all that, someone like you a listener of today and a casual on may not really understand the messages of peace

you telling me u 29 years old and you still dont understand hip hop, i mean you actually said that rappers claim to be better than other rappers and since when is rap a competition...???where have you been for the last 20 years, are you white and dont really listen to rap and just pick out songs now and try to decipher them, cuz anyone who been listening to rap over the past 15-20 years know that they do get competative and the streets are where a lot are from, and their message is pretty simple

I'm not trying to diss these guys or the fans of the style, but I'm just a little confused and I'd like some answers...

I don't get it... how can hip-hop culture be about peace, love, unity, and understanding when these guys are talking about beating up gays in this song, then in another song they talk about killing whites ("Sweatin' Bullets")? on top of that, it seems like every rapper out in general is claiming to be better than every other rapper. since when is music a competition?for the record, I don't like gays and I don't respect their lifestyle, but you don't see me writing songs about beating them up. |
