Right now I'm reading the book Junk(y) by Burroughs, which has been released in an unabridged version for the first time. I just can't get enough of the way he could lay down a phrase. (Not to mention speak those phrases aloud.)I prefer his way above the ways of others, most definitely. Dean

No he says at 3:50 " he slipped three notes under the table." Notes=dollars ,clearly not a literary device.

The preist sold the stolen case for 3 dollars? 3 cents? 3 bills? Is Burroughs delibrately being ambiguous about the amount of the money? Is he trying to make the story independent of taking place in a particular decade or country?

the things a poor junkie has to go through... uncle bill refers to the danger of juvenile addicts, poor lightweight kurt was a case in point. addiction is a condition, it is NOT an excuse. nothing is true, everything is permitted.
